Behind the Keyboard

Hey there, pleased to meet you. You can call me Laney.

I’m a twenty year old California native residing in NC.
I live with my wonderful husband, Ishaq, of nearly two years in North Carolina.

We bought our own home a year ago and share it with our two babies…Dexter and Mabel who are the best cats ever.

I’m currently in nursing school and will graduate in December 2010. I also work in the Pediatric ICU at a local hospital. This blog started off being a way to keep my family and friends back home up to date. It’s now turned into also sharing experiences of nursing school in the hopes that my experiences may help some future up-and-coming nurses. I write in a stream-of-conscious style and usually it’s written in the same way I speak.

In my free time, I enjoy writing, hiking, photography, dancing, video games, and spending as much time as possible with my family and friends. My friends and family are my rocks. Hypocrisy and arrogance are two of my biggest pet peeves although there are many. I’ve also been told I’m sarcastic, but that’s a lie.

Basically: I’m a nursing student and this is my blog.
And I’m a hoot. See?

Disclaimer: Everything in this blog is personal experience or opinion. And it’s been edited for privacy. Thank you, HIPAA. But, feel free to e-mail me at if you have some objection to something I’ve written. [I promise you’re mistaken.]

  1. I believe I have heard about you from a mutual person who loves you to bits – hello to the Saffer you are married to, please tell me he isn’t teaching you Afrikaans!?

Thanks for the comment, you’re on my reader *grins*

  2. Amber sent me. It is nice to meet you.

  3. I hope he is teaching you Afrikaans! Hum… At least the swearwords. Need something to throw at people with a smile when they get under your skin. And they’ll think you are complimenting them.

More seriously – don’t ever let the age thing bug you. I would have married my wife even earlier if I met her earlier. I knew it from day one. You are ready when you meet the one.

You are just the coolest thing ever!!!!!!!! I am so glad that I got to share the concert with my two “babies”. 🙂 I adore you. But you knew that, right?

  4. hi! I just applied to an accelerated BSN program and am waiting to see if I got in….and I also live in North Carolina! I just found your blog and can’t wait to read more!

  5. Hey, I married at 22. Now I’m 29 and have four kids. Trust me, the age thing won’t go away until you’re like thirty-freaking-two years old. People are so weird these days about marriage and family.

  6. Thanks for leaving a comment on my np place blog. I also have another one (main blog) called The Nurse Practitioner’s Place. So envious of you all being up there where it’s beautiful. A friend of mine lives in Murphy, NC.

  7. Hi! Thanks for stopping by my blog! =) I love your blog so far so you’ll probably see me trolling around your older posts now and then. Gonna add you to my blogroll, as well. TTYL!

  8. Hi! Just wanted to say that I’m a huge fan of your blog. I’m a nurse’s aide who enters nursing school this fall and I CANNOT WAIT. I love the experiences you share. If you have time, stop by my blog. : )

    • Wow thanks!! That means a lot. And I checked your blog out- I’m excited to read it. Thanks for the mention! I’ll add you to my daily reading.
